Natural history / sealife illustration | Tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) life cycle. A species of requiem shark, a voracious hunter and one of the largest sharks in the world. Young tiger sharks spend up to 14 to 16 months in the womb and a newborn leaves it's mother upon birth. It has a status of 'Near Threatened' on the IUCN Red List as a result of overfishing / shark finning. This wasteful and often cruel practice is currently the greatest threat facing many shark species and consequently will threaten the stability of marine ecosystems.
